…and now back to my regularly scheduled blog post…..

It has been quite a while since I have posted. My computer, in human years was only 5 or so, but in computer years, that equates out to about 87. and it was really showing its age. I think it might even have alzheimer’s disease….

Well, I finally able to scrounge up, and earn a few extra dollars, for a much needed replacement! SO, here is the newest post…All of July’s photos of the day, for your enjoyment!

And please, dont forget to leave me a comment and share the link to my blog with your friends and family!

…life began in a garden…

As promised (threatened?) last week, here are images I created in my own garden. We bought this house in October of ’06, and immediately began to make it our own. We tore out several overgrown and neglected boxwoods, three holly trees (which we actually did for the next three years, because for some reason, they just wouldn’tgo away.
We had our porch surrounded by those ubiquitous orange daylillies, you know the ones…they are everywhere! I decided to move them, and share some with afriend,as Ifelt that they were being a bit roo agressive for that location.
We have tried Lamb’s ears, Dusty Miller, Celosia (which are STILL sprouting from seed.)

We have valiantly fought the bindweed variety of Morning Glory. (still fighting, actually). It is funny, the plants that we planted that the bindweed hitched a ride with has lond since died, but this stuff refuses to!

We are finally getting close to my vision of my garden…..I think.

Garden Visitors

This week’s 365
Lately, I have been feeling a bit like I am in a rut. I haven’t felt that creative “push”, or insiration kicking me in the nuts. I dont think that from the weekend of the Longwood Gardens trip, to a couple of days ago, I put the camera to my eye. Not once. but not to worry. The 365 did not suffer. I found several old images, and tried some new post processing to bring them new life.

<ahref=”https://justinryansenior.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=321″ rel=”attachment wp-att-321″>

a special trip to Longwood Gardens for Father’s Day…

Last weekend, Father’s Day Weekend, Patty and Justin wanted to take me somewhere special. I had never been there, and I suspect, that Patty just wanted to go there, because she hadn’t been there in years. Never the less, we had a great time! We brought my mom along, as she and I are kinda like partners in crime in the garden, sharing plants (even though most of her plant shares end up in an eruption of bindweed morning glorys….) The weather was fantastic, and I would love to go back in the spring, when the trees are in bloom, and the fall is probably amazing as well.

There were WAY to many photosfor this old computer to handle, so here are some of the highlights. Some of the images may seem to have off colors, orjust look a bit unrealistic. These photos were edited on my ipad, and looked fine until I saw them on my computer monitor. Despite this one caveat, I hope you enjoy these photos.

This kid is like a human divining rod! I swear, ifthere is water anywhere nearby, he will find it! Definitely want to have him with you if you are lost in the desert!

Patty and Justin look into a pond at the catfish swimming to the surface looking for a bite to eat…

This is a method of aranging several images that are connected, either by subject matter, processing, or both. It is called a triptych. This one is made up of images of three separate orchids at Longwood Gardens.

Carnival Season

It’s Carnival season again! The time of year when the weather gets warm, and the carneys come out of hibernation. Wallets get thinner as tummies get fatter on the funnel cake, fried oreos, pizza, cotton candy, and all other manner of unhealthy fun foods.

The June Feteis an annual carnival hosted by Abington Memorial Hospital. The fairgrounds, in Huntington Valley is pretty much unused all year. That is, until the weekend in June when hundreds, if not thousands of people converge on the grounds for this carnival

We took Justin there last weekend, as there was no way of hiding it’s existence, since it is on the way to and from school….

I remember going on this Ferris Wheel (well, maybe not THIS one) with my dad years ago, and getting stuck at the top, we were waiting for our turn to get off the ride, and the sky just opened up and it started pouring! Little Justin just loves this story, and driving past this carnival all last week, he would ask me to tell him story again. He would then tell me what would happen if he and I got stuck on the ride….

Short Post from a Busy Week

This week’s post is a short one. Over the past several weeks, I (we) haqvebeen very busy. A good friend of mine asked me if I could photograph the girls of his softball team, so that he could give a nice print to each of them at the end of the season. It is not as easy as it may sound to some. So after going to several tournaments, and several hours of post processing work to makeeach girl stand out in their personal image, I had finished. Add to that a weekend of catching up on yard work missed while away, and setting up a new fishtank for my little guy, you are left with not much energy or inspiration left at the end of each day.

Graduation
My littlest brother, Nick, graduated from high school this week, and as such, He has now made it into the blog! Congratulations Nick, Marissa, andall the other graduates of Archbishop Wood’s Class of 2012! A-MAIZE-ING!
(No, that is not a Sith Lord Nick is shaking hands with, but it is a member of the catholic church-I don’t know which is worse-)

365 photos from last week:

You may recognize these two shots from last week’s post, as I took them on our Memorial day trip to Salt Springs State Park. I used them for last week’s Facebook photo of the day post, which is why they are in this week’s post as well.

‘Old Barn’

‘Gentle Falls’

‘Turtle Time!’
This guy was struggling up a small embankment when I arrived at work last Tuesday. I got my camera, and started framing up a shot. The turtle saw me and immediately turned towards me as if to say “here, this is my good side”. When I was satisfied with my capture, he turned and finished climbing the embankment and was gone in a matter of minutes.

‘Tiny Bubbles’
This moment caught my eye when I was cooking dinner for the family. I added oil to my pot of simmering water for noodles, and they immediately broke into these little bubbles. Sunlight was streamingthrough the window, right onto my bubbles, so I used a close up filter to capture an abstract image.

Columbine – Macro’
Another bloom from my garden.

‘Dr. Seuss’s Seeds’
These crazy seed pods form after the beautiful flowers are done blooming on my Clematis that grows on the light post in my garden.

‘Vintage Tin’
This car sits outside a car repair place near home. I dont know if it is a customer’s car, or if it was abandoned. I can’t help looking at this car, and thinking about what it’s past might have been. Where was it first bought? Was it someone’s proud new first car? Did this car safely bring home a brand new baby for the young couple who owned it? The stories this car would tell, if it could, would be amazing. Or so I like to believe!

A walk in the Park…and this past week’s 365 photos

strong>Salt Springs State Park
This week’s post is a plethora of shots from a state park in north eastern PA, just outside of Montrose. My mother and father in law have a house, and several times a year, we spen a weekend at the house. Whenever we go, little Justin insists onvisiting Satl Spring. We have tried finding other local state parks to no avail. Somehow, Salt Spring seems to call us….

This farm is a short walk down the road from the house.

This is a typical night sky from the house in Montrose. It is absolutely full of little bright diamonds. In the summer, when our night sky is facing the center of our galaxy, after you allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness, you can actually see the plane of our galaxy stretch out above you.

Family Hikes
We visit Salt Springs everytime we visit Montrose, which is about six times a year. It seems as though every time we visit, nature has changed it somehow. Sometimes something minor. Sometimes major changes occur, such as the changes that Hurricane Irene brought with her. Regardless, sometimes, it is a different journey each time we go, and that keeps us coming back. Little Justin has been hiking these falls since we was born, perhaps sooner. Labor Day weekend, two months after he was born, we were out on those falls. This kid really likes to climb these falls, and he can do it better than either Patty or myself. He doesn’t let anything stop him!

Details
This series of shots consists of some of the details found in Salt Springs State Park. I have a hard drive full of shots of the waterfalls, HDR, Panoramic, HDR Panos, etc…so this last time out I decided to try to focus more on the details. This gorge is made up of mostly sandstone, and it is amazing to see the layers upon layers of sedimentary rock developed over the eons. One of my favorite boulders, displaying these layers, was featured in the very first blog post.
This beautiful old farmhouse/barn greets visitors to the park

People are strange creatures. We walk by a pool of water and we feel the need to throw money into it. This rock, “Penny Rock” is a huge chunk of Sedimentary rock along the trail, that people feel that, by jamming a penny into the cracks that form the layers, and bashing it flat to the rock, they somehow will have altered their destiny by achieving ‘good luck’…I dont get it…..

This image is amazing. in the 1/125th of a second it took for the shutter to record this image, I recorded hundreds, if not thousands of years of water dripping in this very spot. Erosion has been helped along by visitors who climb the falls and usethis as their first foothold…

Wildlife:
On our hikes, we come across wildlife quite often (imagine that!). This first butterfly greeted us as we came out of our second hike this weekend, warming his wings in the late afternoon sun.
The second butterfly landed directly infront of me, swept his wings a few times, as if to say LOOK AT ME!, allowed me to get really close with my camera, and after a few shots, he fluttered away. It was pretty cool.
The frog in the third shot was just sitting there in the middle of the path, and I was about to kick what I thought was a rock into the wather, when I noticed the green! From a standing height, this little guy almost blended right in!

365 photos from Sunday, May 20 to Saturday, May 26
This weeks photo inspirations came from my garden, my kitchen, and even a ride to work. Making a new photo every day can be a daunting task. I carry my camera everywhere I go (almost), and my eye is always searching for beauty, hidden OR blatant. Some days, I have nothing at the end of the day, and I end up scrambling for a photo. Other times, I pass something daily, and I plan a shot in my mind for days on end, either waiting for the light to be right, or some other aspect to be in just the right place.
An example of this would be the shot from Tuesday. I pass this dilapidadted building every day, and have been planning how I wanted to shoot it for weeks. One morning, the sky was overcast, and I just loved how the low contrast light shone in it. So I stopped and shot it on the way in to work.

Lone Bench was shot while walking through Hatboro. I had the post processing in mind as soon as I saw this bench sitting alone in front of the old factory.

The final two images for last week are from a weekend excursion to Montrose, Pa.

There you have it! Despite all of the challenges that I had keeping me from getting this post written, I did it!
Please leave a comment, let me know how I am doing. Alos, don’t forget to share my link with all of your friends, family,co-workers, or anyone else that you think might enjoy my photography.
Prints ARE available for purchase, just send me a message, with what print youwould like to see hanging on your wall, and in what size, and I will get back to you with pricing.

Tools Of The Trade, and the weekly photos

Hello loyal followers! This week’s post gives you all a little glimpse into the world of autobody. Many of you know that I am an autobody tech -or body man- and recently, I began a personal project, somewhat unintentionally, of photographing the tools and, after a request from a fellow photographer, some of those tools in action.

This is an ongoing project, and I have been kicking around the idea of maybe putting together a book with the images. The images are processed in a manner that, I feel, fits the body shop feeling. I used a lot of textures when processing these images, and a bit of selective desaturation. Some of these pictures were very difficult to capture, since I am the tech in the pictures, as well as the photographer. Enjoy……

These are the images that started it all…

Tools in Action
These are the shots showing the repairs being done to various vehicles.

Please leave feedback, let me know yourthoughts on this project of mine. Good, Bad, indifferent, whatever. I wanna hear from you!

This Week’s 365 Photos:
Sunday’s image was taken at beerfest in Washington’s Crossing. It was an absolutely beautiful day, and a great time spent with my wife and my brother, Sean!

Monday’s shot is the back of out paint mix room/compresser room.

Tuesday’s shot was also posted above, I was working on a car, and I looked down at the mess and thought it would make a great shot…

Wednesday’s photo is a shot of the lot behind the shop. It had just finished raining, and the rocks almost had a pebbly beach feel to them, so I got the camera really low, and processed the image to even out the various shades of black the stones actually were…

Thursday evening, we took Justin to Mason’s Mill park, and as you can see, this kid likes to clown around! He was making monkey noises the whole time he was hanging there….

I am always looking around at what would make a great image, and, Friday morning, I was pulling in to work, and was rewarded for my searching with the dew sparkling in the light from the rising sun, bursting through the trees.

Saturday’s shot was taken for another one of my subject-projects. I fount these roses in my mom’s garden, and the lines and shapes of the petals, both as buds AND blooms caught my eye.

Well, that’s all I have for this post! Please leave me feedback on my words, on my photos, whatever….let me know you are out there!
Also, dont forget to click the follow button (wherever it is) so when I post, you are notified, and also, if you would like to purchase prints, that can be arranged….just contact me somehow

…of forgotten photos and this past week’s 365’s

As I was tidying up the old hard drive over the past week, reorganizing the photo library, I came across quite a few photos from vacations past, from mountain house trips gone by, and some shots of Princess that I remember taking, but were lost in the fury of shooting and loading the photos with no real sense of purpose or organization.

Some of these shots I took either on the old film Nikon in the family, some on a newer (my first SLR) NIkon, and some on a Kodak “go-between” camera (a point and shoot with manual setting capability….

Hawaii

These first shots are from our trip to Hawaii. This is where the photography bug first bit me. I wanted some nice photos to bring back home, because who knows when I, we will be able to go back. So I borrowed my dad’s (or Theresa’s-I never got a straight answer)Nikon from either the early 80’s to late 70’s. I bought a bunch of 800 speed film (damn I wish I learned more about photography before choosing this speed….) and started shooting away…

ImageImageImage

We visited the Uss Arizona Memorial while we were out there. There was a very somber air on that memorial, I took this shot as a father and his two sons examined the names of the lost crew:

Massachusetts

In October of ’07 we took our vacation in Cape Cod. It is absolutely beautiful in Massachusetts in the fall, and we got to Cape Cod the week after the summer season ended. There were no crowds, but everything was still in full swing. It was cool.

Image

We took a drive up through Boston to Salem, stopping at Plymouth Rock on the way. That was a pretty good day, and come to think of it, Justin was born about nine months later….

We took a tour of Fenway Park while travelling through Boston, and the Red Sox were getting ready for the ALCS against the Yankees. They even started a practice while we were there.

Here are some other images that I “found” on my hard drive. They seem to have been taken Labor Day weekend of 2008.

The very first one….

At the reccomendation of several of my “fans” (actually, they were all family members) I am starting this blog to as a way to share with the world, my view of the world I, we, live in. Many beautiful things slip by us every moment of every day, and like Ferris Bueller said, “if you don’t stop and look around, you might miss it.” Or something like that.

Most of these missed views are subtle; the way the light from the afternoon sun happens to strike something mundane- a leaf, a tree branch, etc…- or patterns in the asphalt of a well travelled road; other views are not missed at all, the colors of a burning sky at sunset, or the saturated colors in a newly opened flower. This blog will be moments in time, fleeting moments captured on my camera’s sensor, as well in my eyes and mind. The posts, typically, will not be too verbose, only containing, perhaps, a description of the subject, sometimes maybe a short quip regarding the photo, or maybe just a paragraph or two describing my feelings during the shoot. I will attempt to post weekly to this blog, but until it becomes a habit, I may miss a post here or there.

Please enjoy my images, and feel free to spread the word about my blog to your friends, and if you have any comments on any of my images, please feel free to comment!

These are a few examples from each side of the coin. Some beauty is blatant, and you would have to miss it on purpose, while other times, it happens to be right in front of you, but we just need to learn to see it….
